Manifesto
This page is not a dossier. A dossier holds one speaker’s sentences against the things those sentences name. The manifesto is the desk those files are written on. It says what this bureau is for, what it will not do, and how a correction is entered when the bureau itself is wrong.
Preamble · Why a manifesto
Public speech is a virus with a willing host. A politician can rename a massacre, borrow a Jewish catastrophe, inflate a rank, or promise an arrest the city cannot serve, and the room will nod if the syntax is confident. Rhetoric & Logic exists to stop the nod. The purpose is not a party and not a mood. It is a file: the sentence, the date, the referent, the verdict. Anger is permitted. Invention is not. A walk-back stays. An absence stays. When we misquote, we strike our own line in the same ink. The rules below are how that file is kept.
I · The sentence, not the vibe
Quote it. Date it. Name the room. If the speaker later says they misspoke, the misspoke stays on the page next to the original. A file that hides the walk-back is a pamphlet. A file that hides its own error is the same thing.
II · The map is the argument
A Jew does not have to pretend “from the river to the sea” is a zoning dispute. The river is the Jordan. The sea is the Mediterranean. Between them is the Jewish state. Private meaning does not veto public use. “Globalize the intifada” is not rescued by a listener who hears only equality. The second intifada had a body count. The word arrived already carrying it.
III · Borrowed catastrophe
Never again, concentration camp, genocide: these are not spare adjectives. They name the Shoah, or a legal crime with elements. Bolting them onto a border facility, a cabinet, or a war the speaker did not start is theft of a Jewish catastrophe to win a domestic point. The museums have already answered. We do not re-litigate their answer to flatter the thief.
IV · Invention is the fireable offense
Anger is allowed. A sentence that is not in the record is not. If the file wanted a pro-Moscow line and the record contains an arrest pledge for Putin, the file says none found. See File 010. The absence is part of the verdict.
V · We correct ourselves in the same ink
On 3 October 2026 this bureau withdrew a gloss in File 001. The page had said Ilhan Omar invoked “academic consensus outside of genocide studies.” She did not. Her office told CNN that recognition of genocide should rest on “academic consensus outside the push and pull of geopolitics,” explaining a present vote on H. Res. 296. The false phrase was ours. It is struck. The present vote, the 405–11 passage, and her actual words remain.
Erratum · File 001, Exhibit D · statement to CNN, 29 Oct 2019, quoted by National Review.
VI · No charity, including for our side
The point of the bureau is not to win a thread. It is to leave a sentence nowhere to hide. The ballot is closed.
